The Zigolo MG12 has been built, flown and refined for more than ten years. It is one of the few ultralights that proves a simple truth: a light aircraft can be understandable, repairable and enjoyable even for first‑time builders.

During the pause needed to complete the TrueLite development, we observed something important: many owners kept improving their Zigolo. Some modified it, some upgraded it, some sold it and bought another. The Zigolo never stopped: it has its natural place in the market and continues to inspire builders worldwide.

Its structure has not changed: the Zigolo MG12 is Still the same. We did not redesign it, because it works. What changes is the way we offer it: clearer, simpler, and more sustainable for new builders.

We exported more than 56 Zigolos, and the number would have been much higher if we had not voluntarily paused production to dedicate our resources to TrueLite. Yet the demand never stopped. The project remained alive—it was simply on hold.

Now, in 2025, the Zigolo MG12 returns. Not as a new aircraft, but as the same proven machine, made easier to purchase, build, maintain and personalise.

Why the Zigolo MG12 returns now

Because the market needs honest entry‑level ultralights—aircraft that:

  • truly meet their declared specifications,

  • fit their legal categories,

  • fly safely even with low power.

And also:

  • are affordable,

  • easy to build,

  • teach you how to build,

  • offer available (or producible) spare parts,

  • have proven flight behaviour,

  • allow safe personalisation with technical guidance.

The Zigolo offers all of this. That is why it returns.

Two complementary paths within Aviad

TrueLite – the complete ultralight, defined in every detail

A fully‑featured small aircraft, with metal flaps, aluminium structure, impeccable behaviour, stall speeds as low as the Zigolo but much better cruise performance.

The engine reflects today’s evolution: while the Zigolo historically used paramotor‑style solutions, the TrueLite uses more robust engines designed for durability.

It folds in seconds and can be transported in two minutes. It ships anywhere in five cardboard boxes, all under two metres.

Perfect for schools, clubs and pilots wanting an elegant, professional, reliable aircraft with modular and interchangeable components, without taking up hangar space.

Zigolo MG12 – the accessible aircraft you can truly make your own

The relaunch is built around three key elements:

  • Official MG12 Manuals – structure, flight manual, 3D views, required tools, bill of materials, methods, community.

  • Essential Structural Kit – critical parts difficult to make at home (brakes, wheels, tubes, spars, hardware).

  • Official Technical Support – now integrated: functional modifications, yes; unsafe modifications, no.

You can start from any stage, source some parts locally, or build step‑by‑step with the complete guide.

The Zigolo Mg12 remains the Zigolo Mg12. But the path to build it is now much clearer.

The Zigolo used‑market: a value that lasts

In the past years we noticed one clear trend: used Zigolos never stay on the market. Every time one is listed, it sells quickly—often at a remarkably stable price.

This proves two things:

  • the project maintains long‑term value,

  • buyers of used Zigolo MG12 still want technical support and a reliable reference.

Whoever sold a Zigolo has often received our support—repairs, checks, assessments. Only a few chose not to, but it is always recommended. That is why the new MG12 model includes manuals, plans and assistance that are extremely useful even for buyers of already‑built aircraft.

A second‑hand buyer can:

  • verify part conformity,

  • assess structural condition,

  • buy missing/damaged components or produce them with our guidance,

  • update the aircraft following clear criteria.

The used‑market is not a competitor—it is an entry door that strengthens the entire Zigolo ecosystem.

A proven machine opening new possibilities

More than 50 Zigolo MG12s built around the world have generated blogs, photos, solutions and experience. Now this knowledge becomes part of the official project.

The Zigolo does not change identity—it simply becomes easier to start and easier to follow.

In 2017, the University of Wisconsin–Madison built a Zigolo MG12 ultralight for atmospheric research. Led by Professor Grant Petty, the aircraft carried sensors to measure wind, temperature, pressure, humidity, and water fluxes in the boundary layer. Flying between 150 and 1,500 feet with up to four hours endurance, it provided low‑cost data not obtainable from satellites or large aircraft. Plans included converting the engine to electric to avoid exhaust interference. The Zigolo also supported NASA’s PREFIRE mission by flying winter transects over frozen lakes, supplying calibration data to predict Arctic snow and ice melt. This project showed the Zigolo’s value beyond recreation, as a tool for advanced climate science.
